Area advertising and marketing agencies, photographers, freelance professionals, students and others submitted 170 total entries.

Lisa Marshall, president of Canton Advertising Federation, a local chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), believes this event epitomizes the ingenuity Stark County is known for. “The Canton Advertising Federation brings together many of the area’s most innovative professionals, and we showcase their finest efforts at the ADDYs,” she says. “The opportunity for gold winners to move on to district ADDYs, and perhaps even the AAF’s national competition, is just one of the many professional development opportunities we offer our members and the community.”

Massillon’s Triple Play Design earned the coveted Best of Show Award for its Cleveland Metroparks Lake to Lake Trail Wayside Panels, an outdoor campaign for Cleveland Metroparks that one judge called “a piece of art, not just a sign.” Another commented that the entry displayed “great use of multiple elements and textures.”

Judges’ Awards went to:

• Innis Maggiore for their interactive media entry, Shearer’s Snacks Web site.

• Todd Biss Photography for the advertising element To Hope on behalf of Living Fountain Dance Company.

• Grabowski & Co. for their Kimono as Art campaign on behalf of the Canton Museum of Art.

Other silver and gold ADDY winners included: a la mode designs, Cassel Bear, Farthing Graphic Design, In The Round Design Group, Malone University, Mulberry Marketing Group, StoneKap Productions, The Repository/GateHouse Ohio Media, The Timken Company and Walsh University.

Judges for this year’s event were Ken Waldron, chief creative officer for Paul Werth Associates in Columbus; Jim Elkin, assistant vice president of field technology at Great American Financial Resources in Cincinnati; and Jacie Schultz, art director at Wyse Advertising in Cleveland.

The Phantom of the ADDYs was played by Andrew Black, who holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Malone University and is currently pursuing a career in choral music and vocal performance. Christine was played by Amanda Medley, an instructor of voice at the Players Guild and St. Louis and St. Joan of Arc Schools.

The committee in charge of Canton Advertising Federation ADDY Awards – the first of a three-tiered, national competition conducted annually by the AAF – was chaired by Heather West, Innis Maggiore. Other committee members included David Yakley, Malone University, Kevin Rapp, StoneKap Productions, and Cheryl Henderson, Innis Maggiore. The event was made possible by generous sponsors Innis Maggiore, StoneKap Productions, Malone University, The Personal Touch, PPI Graphicsa and Printing Concepts. Table sponsors included AGS Custom Graphics, Cathy Cowgill Flowers, Hawver Display and J.L. Carroll Writing & Editing.

With more than 60,000 entries annually, the ADDY Awards are the world’s largest and arguably toughest advertising competition. The AAF, a not-for-profit industry association, conducts the ADDY Awards through its 200 member advertising clubs and 15 districts. It is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry.
